Matt Metcalf
Matt Metcalf is a trial lawyer who has tried more than 30 felony jury trials. He spent his career prosecuting Ohio’s most serious criminal cases. He handled more than a thousand felony cases, tried aggravated murder cases to verdict, and rose to Chief of the Criminal Division in Richland County. He now represents people injured by the negligence of others.
As a prosecutor, his job was getting justice for victims. He does that same work at Wisehart Wright. The clients are different, but the job is the same: build the case on the evidence and prove what happened and what it cost.
Most injury cases settle, and that is exactly why trial experience matters. Insurance companies keep track of which lawyers try cases, and that shapes what they are willing to pay. Matt prepares every case as though it is going to trial, because the cases that are ready for trial are the ones that settle for full value.
Matt began his legal career in 2018 as an assistant prosecutor in Richland County, handling primarily criminal matters. In 2023 he was promoted to Chief of the Criminal Division, taking on many of the county’s most serious felonies. He served as a Magistrate for the Richland County Domestic Relations Court in 2024, and most recently ran the felony docket for the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office.
A native of Mansfield, Ohio, Matt graduated from Crestview High School and earned his undergraduate degree in Business Economics from Ohio University before receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in 2018. He earned both degrees while serving eight years in the Ohio Air National Guard with the 200th RED HORSE Squadron, the Guard’s heavy construction and rapid-deployment engineering unit.
Matt lives in Mansfield with his family. Outside the office he enjoys hunting, fishing, and rooting for Cleveland sports teams.
